Willa Ford...she still wants to be
bad
Q: Thanks for granting us this interview...
My pleasure... AskMen.com! Every time
I search for my name online, AskMen.com
comes up with my profile; mine and
every other hot chick under the sun
(laughs).
Q: How does it feel to read your
profile online?
It's funny... you know, there is such
a difference between the plain old
Willa Ford who hangs out around the
house and the Willa Ford the media
writes about. I read some things and
I say "really?"
Q: How much of the Willa Ford that
you read about is the real Willa Ford?
Hmm... as far as just the girl that
hangs out, very different. I come
across to many people, when people
meet me, like someone that may be
hard to get along with... for no reason.
Like, I am real level-headed, I do
not get real crazy about anything...
I think that people expect me to be
very fiery, and I can [be], when I
am in the zone.
Q: How did you get your start?
How I got here... I was very shy as
a kid, [but] not in my living room,
so my mom put me in a singing group
because I had a speech impediment,
but the minute I got on stage, it
took off... I did talent competitions.
Finally, a talent scout found me and
they felt that I had some kind of
drive.
Q: Numerous people have taken you
under their wing -- what stands out?
I've had a lot of people help me,
I would say Uncle Kracker, he is my
favorite person, he broke it down
for me... he did not sugarcoat anything...
about how to handle record labels,
he is pretty private but he is a really
good person. He is very much a father,
with his little son... to me, he is
like a big brother... but someone
that I really look up to, it is probably
him.
Q: You say that you are not a cheerleader
-- how would you describe yourself?
People say I have spunk. When a girl
has spunk, she just has it... same
thing with a guy. I am not judgmental,
and I do not care about being judged...
I am really crazy, I [think I have]
ADD. But one minute I might be learning
to play football, the next racing,
and the next I am in the studio. I
am an Aquarius, so perhaps I need
that.
Q: You mentioned that when you search
for yourself online, you also get
a lot of hostile sites, partially
because of your involvement with former
Backstreet Boy, Nick Carter. What
was that like?
Hmm... you know, it was crappy...
It was crappy only because, screw
the fans, what about the fact that
we were going through our relationship
and this was breaking us up at the
seams? Recently, we have reconciled,
you know... we even thought of patching
things up and getting back together,
but the more we hang out, the more
it seems like an unrealistic desire.
I have grown to be quite independent.
I am really dependable, but he is
the opposite, he is real flaky. You
know? Some people are really sadder
and they cannot help others... but
in terms of the drama with the fans...
whatever!
Q: If you could choose, would you
date celebs or off-the-radar men?
It's really hard. I am doing both
right now. Just doing a little bit
of that... at the same time (laughs).
But nobody thinks that it is just
that, I am trying to figure it out
right now. I have dated famous people,
but there is always some form of ego.
No matter how humble they may be,
there is always something that only
a famous person could pull off...
Right now, I am dating this one guy
who doesn't get upset about anything...
not sure if that is a good thing or
bad.
Q: What makes a man sexy in your
eyes?
The most important thing is drive.
I am really into a guy that knows
what he is doing with his life. He
needs direction, even if he's not
doing what he wants in life. As long
as he is full of energy and working
toward a goal. Obviously, I like cute
ones... Cute first of all, and then,
the rest of that (laughs).
Q: Do girls have a disadvantage because
of a stereotype or double standard?
There is always a stereotype, some
people say it is the 21st century...
bullsh*t! We face stereotypes every
day. I do not think it affects us...
some people are bitter no matter what
you do. So what the hell do you do?
Cute boys can be dumb as rocks and
you can't do anything with them...
Q: Most people you meet -- do they
know who you are?
I don't know... depends on where I
am. There are quite a few people who
know. I did chop my hair off... once
I change my look, I am one of those
people who changes their look all
the time, so I never look alike...
Q: When it comes to your music, you
refer to Radiohead and Bjork as influences
-- how much of that comes through?
Radiohead is harder to detect, but
Bjork is pretty obvious...
Q: You wrote a song from the perspective
of a gay person -- why?
I started writing as someone who is
gay, but really, it is about being
an outcast, just not being normal...
there are some people that you look
at and you know they are not normal...
I just was so tired of my life, trying
to prove to others that I am worthy...
Q: Damn, I was hoping this was your
way of telling us you were bisexual.
No... you are out of luck! (laughs)
Q: Well, thank you for your time
Willa, and we wish you the best in
your future endeavors.
